While it has been known for a little while that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be joining DC Comics‘ newly forming cinematic universe, prior to Wednesday it had not yet been announced in what role.
Costumed superhumans, masked avengers, mad geniuses, benevolent aliens, demigods, and the like, are pretty much the biggest business in Hollywood these days.
By decree of the character’s longstanding and only ever publishing home, DC Comics, and to mark the character’s 75th anniversary, July 23rd is Batman Day; “A Celebration of All Things Dark Knight.”
It may have taken them a while to catch up, but — if rumors are to be believed — DC Comics finally has a plan in place to properly make a film-franchise of their stable of household-name superhero characters
