Batman Day is a Thing and Today is it!

West and Ward
By decree of the character’s longstanding and only ever publishing home, DC Comics, and to mark the character’s 75th anniversary, July 23rd is Batman Day; “A Celebration of All Things Dark Knight.”

From the stalwart comic publisher’s own blog:

Batman is celebrating his 75th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion, comic shops, bookstores and libraries by the hundreds will be observing “Batman Day,” a full day devoted to all things Dark Knight! On Wednesday, July 23, participating comic shops and bookstores will give away free copies of DETECTIVE COMICS #27 SPECIAL EDITION, an updated take on the comic that first introduced Batman to the world.

This event is timed, we’re sure not coincidentally, to correspond with Wednesday night’s start to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con; the American pop-culture convention to end them all (except for possibly the rapidly expanding New York Comic Con), and surely the single place on Earth this summer where the Caped Crusader will be regarded as most relevant.

DC Entertainment, as you’d expect, will have a substantial presence at the con; including a Thursday panel called “Batman 75: Legends of the Dark Knight,” and a Saturday panel exploring the character’s numerous incarnations — spanning most every conceivable medium — from the past three-quarters of a century.

In keeping with that last matter, we bring you this silver-screen-centric Batman item.

His Dark Knightness has been portrayed on the big screen a few times throughout the decades, to mixed responses and results. But nonetheless, a curious assortment of gentlemen have donned the cowl and patrolled Gotham, and below — using our proprietary PeekScore scale — we’ve set about seeing how prominent and influential each of these once (or currently) masked thespians is in cyberspace.
