While the music industry may be struggling in the age of digital, some musicians — and those who work for and with them — are still making big bucks via the biz of catchy tunes (and the theatrical hubbub that surrounds them).
On Sunday, November 23 — at 8pm ET (and broadcast on ABC) — the 2014 American Music Awards will be taking place (or took place, depending on when you’re reading this).
On Sunday, in Glasgow, Scotland, the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards (aka, MTV EMA) will be taking place. Hosted by the frankly magnificent Nicki Minaj, the broadcast will be greeted by much hoopla and online buzz.
On Tuesday, the nominees for the 2015 People’s Choice Awards — the 39-year old ceremony which holds itself out as the only awards show reflecting the true tastes of the general public (as they’re the ones doing the voting) — were announced.
Rumors had been flying around fast and furious last month that our queen, Beyoncé, and her king, Jay-Z, were on the rocks; with a formal announcement of their uncoupling said to be coming once their incredibly successful On the Run co-headlining tour wrapped.
While it’s never been quite clear how nominations or winners are determined — or for that matter whether it’s the performer or the nominated video’s director who is actually winning this award, or that — MTV‘s 30-year old Video Music Awards show somehow remains culturally relevant.
The music industry may be in a bit of a shambles in recent years, but try telling that to the ten folks listed below; each of whom fell asleep last night on a pile of money and awoke this morning on a different, even bigger pile of money.
