Twelve weeks into the 2015 season, both Colorado and Washington owned losing records.
Thirteen months later, No. 9 Colorado and No. 4 Washington are a combined 21-3 and about to meet at 9 p.m. EST tonight in the Pac-12 Championship Game in Santa Clara, Calif.
We’ll have up-to-the-minute scoring and stats here throughout the game. Check the scoreboard above and click on the stats link.
The turnaround began late last season for Washington, which won its final three games to finish 7-6 with a New Mexico Bowl title and emerge as one of the popular breakthrough picks during the preseason.
The turnaround started this season for Colorado, which has authored a reversal from a 4-9 record that few experts saw coming.
As Championship Weekend arrives, here are bowl projections for all 40 games—including how the College Football Playoff will look. Which team will Alabama take on? Does Michigan have a chance to sneak in? Can Washington hold down a spot? How much chaos will Penn State cause? Can Clemson avoid falling out?
Turns out, the hype was spot on. Favored since the spring, when they were picked by nearly every media outlet to be the team of 2016, the Washington Huskies lived up to the talk Friday night when they won the Pac-12 championship with a 41–10 victory over Colorado in the conference title game. It’s the program’s first conference crown since 2000.
Here are three quick thoughts after UW’s win:
1. Washington is in the playoff—and may be higher than No. 4
The Huskies are going to the postseason that matters, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It does not matter what happens in other championship games this weekend—UW will be in the College Football Playoff. The question is, will the Huskies move up from the No. 4 spot? Washington looked dominant in its win over Colorado, proving yet again that it is a complete team (more on that below). If Clemson wins big in the ACC title game on Saturday night, the rankings will probably stay the same, but if the Tigers only squeak by Virginia Tech, or if Virginia Tech wins and the Big Ten champ sneaks in, the Huskies might be heading to a party in Arizona instead of the Peach Bowl to face Alabama. Regardless of where it ends up, know this: Washington can give anyone a game, including ‘Bama, particularly because Chris Petersen is known for being good with a…
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Taylor Rapp returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown and Myles Gaskin ran for 159 yards to help No. 4 Washington strengthen its case for a playoff berth with a 41-10 victory over No. 9 Colorado in the Pac-12 championship game Friday night.
The Huskies (12-1, No. 4 CFP) broke open a close game when Rapp intercepted Sefo Liufau’s passes on the first two drives of the second half for a touchdown and to set up a field goal that made it 24-7.
Washington rolled from there to its first conference title since 2000 with a performance likely to keep the Huskies in the top four when the College Football Playoff bids are handed out Sunday.
It was a rough day for Colorado (10-3, No. 8 CFP) and Liufau, who was knocked out of the game after injuring his right leg on a sack on the Buffaloes’ first drive of the game. He returned to start the second half and threw three interceptions, including one on the first play from scrimmage that Rapp returned 35 yards for a score.
Liufau threw another interception on the ensuing drive and Colorado could never recover. Even a circus kick return in…

The 2016 college football season continues Friday, Dec. 2, as No. 4 Washington meets No. 8 Colorado in the Pac-12 championship game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The Pac-12 North champion Huskies are 11-1, while the South champion Buffaloes are 10-2. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.
Fox will broadcast the game beginning at 8 p.m. Central (9 p.m. Eastern).
Washington coach Chris Petersen is happy to let others do the politicking and lobbying when it comes to the College Football Playoff.
He believes what the fourth-ranked Huskies do on the field will speak loud enough. Washington has its final chance to state its case Friday night in the Pac-12 championship game against No. 9 Colorado.
“I have confidence that the powers that be will get these things right,” Petersen said. “I felt that way when I was at Boise and they usually did. We’ll see how this plays out.”
Live streaming for Washington-Colorado is available via Fox Sports Go.
Things are looking good for the Huskies (11-1, No. 4 CFP) after they moved up a spot in the playoff rankings this week. One more win and they will likely make the semifinals in Petersen’s third season at the helm. Washington had not reached double figures in wins for a season in the 13 years before Petersen’s arrival.
But Petersen has built Washington into a power just like he did at Boise State when he led the Broncos to…
A highly anticipated matchup between in-state rivals Washington and Washington State was far less competitive than expected. The Huskies bludgeoned the Cougars on their home turf, racking up 512 total yards and six touchdowns in a 45–17 rout. The win clinches the Pac-12 North Division for Washington, and it will face either USC or Colorado in the conference title game next week. Here are three thoughts on what unfolded at Martin Stadium:
1. Washington got off to a great start
Washington wasted little time in demonstrating why it is considered one of the best teams in the country. The Huskies scored touchdowns on their first four drives, including consecutive passing scores from quarterback Jake Browning to wide receiver Dante Pettis, and limited the Cougars to only three points over their first five sequences. Browning picked apart Washington State’s pass defense, and the Huskies shut down star quarterback Luke Falk and the Cougars’ high-octane attack. Through the first quarter, Washington was averaging 11.4 yards per play compared to 4.9 for Washington State, and the Huskies had recorded nine first downs compared to two for the Cougars.
Washington State finally got into the end zone in the second quarter when it took advantage of good field position after forcing a fumble from Washington receiver John Ross, but the Huskies responded with a seven-play, 85-yard touchdown drive to extend its lead to 25 points. The Cougars’ nightmare half came to a close with them squandering another scoring opportunity, as Falk lofted a pass into heavy coverage in the end zone for an interception. It goes without saying this was not the way Washington State envisioned the first two quarters of this game unfolding, but unlike most situations, when the high-scoring Cougars could feel confident in their ability to make up sizable deficits, the vast disparity in performance between these two teams over the first two quarters left the impression that Washington had already secured the…
