Rob Ford and Apparent ‘Spring-Forward/Fall-Back’ Confusion (on the Part of Someone)

Ford being tickled
It seems the mayor of the great city of Toronto, Mr. Rob Ford (PeekYou profile here), is being held up as a figure of of fun once more. This time, however, the offense was really quite innocent and — as it turns out — not even his fault.

In attempting to remind Mayor Ford’s constituents of Sunday morning’s Daylight Savings Time switch-over, the Mayor’s twitter account broadcast, “Daylight Saving Time starts this evening, turn your clocks back and change batteries in smoke alarms.”

Those of we who have the spring-forward/fall-back mnemonic ingrained into our synapses instantly recognize the error; knowing, as we do, that we lose an hour when switching over to Daylight Savings. But we also know that it’s a common error.

It’s since been confirmed that it was an assistant, and not the Mayor’s own thumbs, that created and posted the tweet. The Mayor’s office rectified the mistake after about a half-hour, but by then the account had been greeted with a barrage of the sort of spirited criticism only the Internet can provide, and which Mayor Ford — admittedly, often due to his own behaviors — seems to especially attract.

Anyway, links to all of the Mayor’s social accounts, and much more, can be found at his PeekYou profile.
