Trending across the cyberspace today is the nearly unbearably sweet story of Alabama high school student Joy Webb, who brought a very special date to her prom.

Joy’s escort for the evening was her 80-year-old grandfather, James Drain; who, himself, never got to attend his prom as a teen. When Webb learned that her “Poppa” had never experienced this common rite of youth, “She said, ‘Hey, will you come to the prom with me and be my beau?’ And I said, ‘I sure will,’” as Drain told Huntsville, Alabama’s WHNT-TV.

Webb cleared the unusual selection of date with her school before asking. “My family is everything to me, and I love him so much, and it’s just like really special to me because I know not many people get to do that. And I know he loves me and I love him, and it’s just really neat and special,” Webb said.

A classy fella, James pulled out all the stops for the night, even taking Joy to the event in a horse-drawn carriage.
