RIP Sid Caesar

American comedy legend, and TV sketch comedy pioneer, Sid Caesar (PeekYou profile here), died on Wednesday at age 91.

Caesar is best remembered as the host and creative force behind the groundbreaking, 1950s television variety program, Your Show of Shows; which co-starred Carl Reiner, Imogene Coca, and Howard Morris, and famously featured among its writers such future legends as Mel Brooks, Larry Gelbart, and Neil Simon. He had a long and storied career on TV, stage, and screen; including turns in such hit films as It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, and Grease.

We’ve included a particularly hilarious sketch from Your Show of Shows above, as it will certainly speak more clearly than we ever could of the man’s abilities to get big laughs.

A visit to Sid’s PeekYou profile will, of course, provide a chance to explore what the Web has to offer — in terms of video, audio, thoughts, and words — regarding this comedy hero.
