RIP Bob Casale (aka, Bob 2), of Devo

DEVO
Bob Casale (PeekYou profile here), one of the original members of the satirical and high concept rock band, Devo, passed away suddenly from heart failure, on February 17th.

While more of a background figure than his brother, Gerald Casale (PeekYou profile here), and lead vocalist Mark Mothersbaugh (PeekYou profile here) — the two generally viewed as the group’s leaders — Bob played on every Devo album, and was with the group from its earliest days.

In a statement Gerald Casale released, he said of Bob’s contribution, “As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches with me from the beginning. He was my level-headed brother, a solid performer and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got.” Gerald also added, “His sudden death from conditions that lead to heart failure came as a total shock to us all.”

Drummer Alan Myers, not an original member, but a member during what many would consider the group’s peak period of creativity, sadly died of stomach cancer in June of 2013.

While we recognize the irony in our praising them in this forum, we nonetheless implore you to visit Bob’s, Gerald’s, and Mark’s PeekYou profiles, and set about exploring the strange, hilarious, prophetic, and harrowing world of Devo; as well as the many other projects with which they are and/or have been involved.
