RIP Ann B. Davis

Ann B. Davis
Emmy Award winning actress, Ann B. Davis (PeekYou profile here), best known for playing Alice the housekeeper on enduring 1970s family sitcom The Brady Bunch, has died at age 88.

The New York Times have written a very nice overview of her life and career — which extended well beyond her five-year run on The Brady Bunch, from 1969-74 — here.

The public first became aware of Davis from her portrayal as secretary Charmaine “Schultzy” Schultz on 1950s comedy series, The Bob Cummings Show; for which she won two Emmys. But she engraved herself indelibly in the public consciousness as the wisecracking, bachelorette, live-in housekeeper to Carol and Mike Brady, and their six kids.

After the cancellation of The Brady Bunch in 1974, Ms. Davis wound up living and working with an evangelical religious group; founded by Episcopal Bishop William C. Frey. She dedicated herself to that life, acting for fun periodically; most notably in the numerous Brady related reunions and projects — from TV movies, to sequel sitcoms, to variety shows, to hour long dramas — that popped up over the decades.

A visit to Ms. Davis’ PeekYou profile will provide a chance to explore her biography vastly more in depth, as well as enjoy much of her body of work; both well-known, and somewhat obscure.

And now, as a bonus, an Ann-centric episode of The Bob Cummings Show (aka, Love That Bob):
