Obey City is now Sam O.B., shares new song “Midnight Blue” and announces US/Canadan tour
Since we last reported on Brooklyn musician and producer Sam Obey, he has abandoned his electro’n’B persona Obey City in favor of a more streamlined moniker and a sound that is “a truer reflection of [him]self musically and artistically than ever before.”
But…okay, well, if Obey’s just-released single “Midnight Blue” is any indication, not that much has changed in his world (save the addition of live drums). The funk-laden, indie-boy, soul jam-ery in the vein of such past Obey City tracks as “Waterbed” continues here; it’s smooth but bold, lush yet well defined. Did I mention it was smooth? Because it’s really, really smooth.
