Mayweather Defeats Maidana by Unanimous Decision

Eliminating the need for a third match-up, welterweight boxing champ, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. won a unanimous decision against Argentine fighter, and former WBA welterweight champ, Marcos Maidana on Saturday night.

After the drama surrounding his title fight with Maidana on May 5, his decisive victory on Saturday, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, was necessary to quiet those who doubted the legitimacy of the pair’s first match-up.

A few dramatic moments occurred, as they will. Ref Kenny Bayless called time in Round 8 when Mayweather claimed Maidana bit his glove. “I didn’t know what happened to my hand. We clinched, my hand got underneath, and he bit my middle three fingers. I couldn’t use my left hand. My middle finger busted open.”

Maidana rebutted the accusation, “How could I bite him? I was wearing a mouthpiece. I’m not a dog.”
