HOW THE INTERNET HAS TRANSFORMED MUSIC
No one would challenge the fact that the Internet has drastically altered the music industry over the lapsed couple of decades. Things continue to change yet rapidly; the music industry is still struggling to keep up. Just From initial issues like music-sharing sites and illegal downloads to contemporary disputes of over streaming of music and the amount the artists should be paid in return, the Internet seems to be posing more questions than it is answering.
Not all the news is bad. Just While the Internet has increased the music accessibility to the public (lowered artists’ chances to make money), it happens too, to be an incredible enabling tool for independent musicians to win the global audience without having to back up. In summary, the Internet has altered the music industry in both negative and positive ways. We’ll evaluate both cases.
The Negative
While large public segments are hailing at the Internet era for enabling cheaper and easier to access (to steal) music, the worst side is that the business sector of music is struggling to generate consistent revenue due to the new technology. The majority who contribute in making records are paid in royalties, yet when the music changes hands minus involving money, those fees cannot be paid—this is the reason why a lot has been done recently to try and cut down music piracy.
