Eminem Apologizes to Mother in New Video

Eminem’s (PeekYou profile here) animosity toward his mother has long been no kind of secret; highlighted unflinchingly and viciously across numerous multi-platinum albums, and even a hit film.

Things in the Mathers household were obviously complicated.

Now a father in his 40s, however (even if he doesn’t look it), he’s learned to forgive his mother, appreciate that she did her best, and show her compassion and empathy for her own struggles. His newest single, and video, ‘Headlights’ finds him directly apologizing to her for negatively referencing her in his past music.

The video, which was released on Mother’s Day, was shot in Eminem’s hometown of Detroit, and directed by Spike Lee (PeekYou profile here).

Eminem shared on Twitter and Instagram last April that Lee would be directing the clip. A teaser hit the Web last Thursday, prior to Sunday’s unveiling.

Shot from the first-person POV of Eminem’s mother, Debbie Matters, the video portrays the turmoil between mother and son, before ending with an on-screen reconciliation.
