DALLAS — After a quiet first round to the NHL draft, business picked up Saturday, thanks to the Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames.
The Flames sent defenseman Dougie Hamilton, NCAA defenseman Adam Fox and left wing Micheal Ferland to the Hurricanes for center Elias Lindholm and defenseman Noah Hanifin, both of whom are restricted free agents.
An extra layer of intrigue in this trade: Bill Peters was hired by the Flames as head coach after opting out of his contract with the Hurricanes after the season. So he knows Hanifin and Lindholm quite well.
This is the second time in three years that Hamilton, 25, has been traded at the NHL draft. He was acquired by the Flames from the Boston Bruins in 2015 for three draft picks. In 245 games with Calgary, Hamilton had 42 goals and 95 assists.
He skated all 82 games last season, averaging 21:32 in ice time. The issues with Hamilton, for Calgary, however, is his $5.75 million cap hit…

The Boston Celtics had only one pick Thursday night in the 2018 NBA Draft.
They made the most of it, according to the experts.
The Celtics selected Texas A&M big man Robert Williams with the 27th overall pick, which some analysts considered a steal late in the first round. Williams comes with red flags, namely questions about his work ethic and past off-court issues, but there’s no denying the 20-year-old’s upside, particularly on the defensive end.
NESN.com’s Logan Mullen handed out grades to each of the 30 NBA teams after the draft and gave the Celtics a B+. That obviously is a solid mark, and he’s not alone in being impressed by Boston’s draft-night handling, as others also praised Danny Ainge and Co. for what they did (and didn’t do).

Johnny Depp’s former business managers may have made a mistake when they claimed in court documents that he spends $30,000 a month on wine, because according to the actor, his monthly vino allowance far surpasses a measly 30 grand.
The details of Pirates of the Caribbean star’s financial expenditures were laid bare in a court filing from his former managers at The Management Group (TMG). The February filing came in response to a $25 million fraud lawsuit Depp unleashed on TMG the month prior.
Depp claimed in his initial complaint that his managers’ negligence had cost him millions, but in their response, TMG painted him as a compulsive spender who blew his $650 million fortune on mansions, yachts, cars, collectables and booze.
Now, in a sprawling interview with Rolling Stone, Depp is setting the record straight on his spending.
“It’s insulting to say that I spent $30,000 on wine,” Depp said. “Because it was far more.”
