Boxer Vitali Klitschko Vacates WBC Belt to Pursue Politics

Vitali Klitschko
As is being reported widely, such as by ESPN here, boxer Vitali Klitschko (PeekYou profile here), is vacating his WBC heavyweight championship belt; having not defended the title in 15 months due to his role as leader of the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform.

The UDAR and Klitschko have played large roles in the current political unrest in Ukraine; fighting to economically align the country with the European Union as opposed to Russia. The WBC have declared Klitschko their “champion emeritus”, meaning the 42 year old can have a title shot any time he chooses, should he choose to fight again.
