Martin Brodeur Has Possibly Played (and Won) His Last Game for the New Jersey Devils
Brodeur, 42, is in the final year of his contract with the franchise, for which he’s played his entire NHL career, and it’s believed that he’ll now be pursuing the free-agent market. He recently was relegated to being the Devils‘ backup goaltender, to Cory Schneider.
Brodeur made 16 saves in Sunday’s game against the Bruins — each met with chants of “Marty! Marty!” — which found New Jersey winning 3-2. At game’s end, Brodeur skated to center ice and waved to the adoring crowd while his teammates stood in front of the bench banging their sticks in tribute.
