Director Zack Snyder Defends His ‘Watchmen’ Adaptation

As further proof that the Internet sometimes concerns itself with stuff that would leave much of the flesh and blood world scratching its collective head, Man of Steel director, Zack Snyder (PeekYou profile here), is trending today for a recent interview he gave Huff Po, wherein he defends his 2009 film adaptation of the beloved graphic novel Watchmen.

The gist of the bit that’s trending is that Snyder stands by his 2009, big screen version of the seminal, 1987 comic; by writer Alan Moore (PeekYou profile here), and illustrator Dave Gibbons. The film version of Watchmen, as it is, is often criticized by never-pleased Internet fanboys both for being too slavish to the original source material and for taking liberties with its ending.

Snyder doesn’t just defend against his online critics, however, as Monty Python alum and respected filmmaker, Terry Gilliam — once attached, 20 years ago, to make his own, ultimately aborted, onscreen version of the book — is dragged into the discussion. Snyder is quoted as saying of the film, “I made it to save it from the Terry Gilliams of this world.” In the context of the interview the quote is not quite so obnoxious, but it’s probably why this thing is trending.
