World War II Hero, Honored at the MLB All-Star Game

Ray Matwich

From Ohio comes a terrific bit of news about one of that region’s local heroes.

Ray Matwich, a 92 year old World War II veteran, was selected from out of many, many possible candidates to represent his beloved Cleveland Indians during the People Magazine Tribute for Heroes at Major League Baseball‘s 2013 All-Star Game this month.

Matwich, who saw his first Indians game in 1933, speaks modestly of the impressive WWII service record which prompted the tribute’s selection board to single him out, saying “I don’t see myself in the sense of being a hero, but I have seen a lot.”
