Trump takes swipe at CNN after resignation of three journalists over retracted story

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Three journalists are out at CNN, a result of the fallout from a retracted story about a Trump transition official’s alleged ties to Russia.

The reporter who wrote the story, Thomas Frank, along with editor Eric Lichtblau and their supervisor on CNN’s investigative unit, Lex Haris, left the network four days after the article was published on CNN.com and three after it was retracted.

“In the aftermath of the retraction of a story published on CNN.com, CNN has accepted the resignations of the employees involved in the story’s publication,” CNN said in a statement.

The story — about a supposed Senate investigation into Trump ally Anthony Scaramucci’s ties to a Russian investment fund — was removed because “it did not meet CNN’s editorial standards,” an editor’s note placed on the page where the story originally appeared said. “CNN apologizes to Mr. Scaramucci.”

Citing a single anonymous source, CNN reported the Senate Intelligence Committee was looking into a meeting between Scaramucci and the head of the Russian investment fund, Kirill Dmitriev.

The story also said two Democratic senators wanted to know if Scaramucci had indicated to Dmitriev whether sanctions against Russia would be lifted. In the article, Scaramucci…
