Michael Schumacher Out of Coma

Retired Formula 1 race car driver, Michael Schumacher (PeekYou profile here), has awoken from the coma he’d been in since suffering severe head trauma during a skiing accident in December.

He has been transferred from the hospital in Grenoble, France, where he had been admitted since the accident. “Michael has left … to continue his long phase of rehabilitation,” said Schumacher’s manager, Sabine Kehm.

He will now embark upon that long phase at the University hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland. It’s been confirmed that Schumacher was admitted there, but no further details have been provided at this time.

The German seven-time world champion, one of the biggest names in Formula 1 history, ended his F1 career in 2012.

“The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes,” Kehm added. “We are sure it helped him. For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye.”
