Incredible Photos of the Gurung Tribespeople of Central Nepal Collecting Wild Honey

Thanks to io9 we’ve had brought to our attention these incredible photos from Britain-based travel photographer, Andrew Newey (PeekYou profile here).

The mind-blowing pics, which you can see in full here, document the Gurung tribespeople of Central Nepal’s biannual collection of wild honey from massive hives on the cliffs of the Himalayas.

Using nothing but rope-ladders and sticks (and smoke to drive away the bees; the largest honey bees in the world), these honey hunters have been at it for centuries. But their ranks are thinning as the dangerous tradition is dying out.
