The video gaming world mourns today as Hiroshi Yamauchi, the man who transformed Nintendo from a humble playing-card company into an arcade and home-gaming behemoth, has died at the age of 85.

Taking over the company in 1949, Yamauchi led it through years of producing various sluggish selling board and electronic games before the arcade smash Donkey Kong, and the home console Nintendo Entertainment System, led the company toward its multi-billion dollar future.
