The San Francisco 49ers have competition for the man they hope to hire as general manager.

The Indianapolis Colts have requested permission to interview Minnesota Vikings assistant GM George Paton, in addition to Seattle Seahawks executives Trent Kirchner and Scott Fitterer, people with knowledge of the search process told USA TODAY Sports. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because neither team has publicly confirmed candidates.
